You said yes again.
You said yes to one more request before you prayed about the request.
Your phone rang after hours, and you answered. A team member needed an answer by morning, and you gave one.
Someone asked you to stay, and the voice in your head told you a faithful woman stays.
- You feel guilt each time you say no to a ministry request.
- You stay available to everyone at every hour.
- You carry exhaustion and call the exhaustion faithfulness.
- You struggle to separate your own responsibilities from the expectations of other people.
- You do not know when to rest, delegate, or step away from an assignment.
The belief underneath the guilt
Underneath the guilt sits one belief: availability equals obedience.
The belief tells you a faithful woman never says no, never rests, and never hands a task to someone else. Jesus prayed alone before dawn. When the crowd came looking for him, he went on to the next towns and kept to his assignment. Exodus 18 shows Moses working from morning to evening until his father-in-law told him the task was too heavy for one person.
You carry a real assignment from God. You also carry requests from people, and the two are different.
The workshop
Serving Without Losing Yourself gives you 75 minutes to sort the requests people place on you from the assignment God gave you. You work through four areas, you write your own plan, and you practice the conversation out loud before you have the real one.
You leave with
- A written Personal Ministry Boundaries Plan covering Availability, Relationships, Responsibilities, and Communication.
- One sentence you wrote and spoke aloud, ready for your next request.
- One boundary you will communicate or put in place within seven days.
- A biblical view of responsibility drawn from Exodus 18, Mark 1, Matthew 5, and Galatians 6.
